Don't bet on May 21 as the end of the world, says Baylor Prof
China National News (ANI) Sunday 15th May, 2011
An associate professor of religion at Baylor University has said that claims that the coming May 21 will be the end of the world should not be believed.
Christian radio host Harold Camping of Family Radio network is traveling the United States with followers in recreational vehicles telling people that Judgment Day will be May 21.
But Doug Weaver of the Baylor University said Camping' group is one of the many folks who keeps on predicting the end of the world but has never come true.
He said that the fascination with the end of the world has spawned "a cottage industry," including books and movies.
When natural disasters abound, or when the financial picture is particularly bleak, forecasts of the Rapture are more likely to surface, he said.
One of the most determined predictors of the end was 19th-century preacher William Miller in the 1840s. When his first prediction failed to come true, he recalculated, but again to no avail.
Camping also has made previous predictions unsuccessfully. (ANI)
