BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

GENEVA -- Globally as of Saturday morning, there have been more than 5 million confirmed COVID-19 cases reported to the World Health Organization (WHO), the latest WHO dashboard on the disease showed.
According to the latest WHO figure, as of 9:32 a.m. Geneva time on Saturday, there have been 5,061,476 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 331,475 deaths, reported to WHO.

TBILISI -- Georgia on Saturday formally terminated its 63-day state of emergency, in a bid to rejuvenate the country's economy.
The state of emergency came to an end at 00:00 on May 23 (2000 GMT, May 22) with the lifting of most coronavirus-related restrictions, including the curfew, according to the Georgian government.

KUWAIT CITY -- Kuwait on Saturday reported 900 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 20,464 and the death toll to 148, the health ministry said in a statement.
Currently, 14,569 patients are receiving treatment, including 192 in ICU, according to the statement.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 941 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking its total infections to 35,244, the country's health ministry has said.
Of all confirmed cases, 13,528 people have recovered and 194 have died, according to the ministry.

NAIROBI -- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday confirmed additional 31 COVID-19 cases that tested positive in the last 24 hours, bringing the national total to 1,192.
Kenyatta said that the cases were discovered by medical personnel after testing 2,576 samples, bringing the total samples that have been tested to 57,650 since the pandemic was reported in the country on March 13.

YANGON -- The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases reached 201 with more than half of the patients having recovered as of Saturday morning, according to figures from the Health and Sports Ministry.
Two returnees in Chin state, who were under quarantine after their recent arrival from Malaysia, tested positive on Saturday.

KATHMANDU -- The Nepal Overseas Chinese Business Association (NOCBA) has distributed books based on the first-hand experience of responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in China.
The "Wuhan in Coronavirus Lockdown: Stories of Courage and Determination" published in Nepali language by Makalu Publication House will be distributed to ministers, leaders, government officials, entrepreneurs, among other prominent figures of Nepal or working in Nepal. The association purchased 200 books from the publisher for distribution on Friday.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The governor of the U.S. state of Washington said Friday that decisions of reopening states should be driven by data and science, not the calendar, as more counties started reopening.
"We are making good progress as we continue to open Washington in segments. Currently, one-third of our state is now eligible to move into Phase 2. We are hard at work to determine next steps as we move closer to the May 31 expiration of my current order," said Jay Inslee in a statement.
