ALGIERS, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Algeria on Sunday reported 231 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total infections in the North Africa country to 102,144.
The death toll from the coronavirus in Algeria rose to 2,807, after four new fatalities were recorded, said the Algerian Ministry of Health in a statement.
Meanwhile, 201 more patients recovered from the disease and were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries in Algeria to 69,272.
The Algerian government announced Sunday the registration of the Russian vaccine "Sputnik V" as part of the emergency measures to begin the vaccination campaign in January.
Djamel Fourar, spokesperson of the Algerian Scientific Committee monitoring the spread of COVID-19, said on Saturday that Algeria will receive the first batch of vaccines in the next few days.
On Feb. 25, 2020, Algeria recorded its first case of infection with the COVID-19.
China and Algeria have offered mutual help in the fight against the pandemic. In last February, Algeria sent medical donation to help China combat the coronavirus. In return, China sent two batches of medical aid to Algeria on March 27 and April 15 last year.
A Chinese medical expert team arrived in Algeria on May 14 last year for a 15-day mission to help fight the coronavirus, through sharing China's experiences in curbing the spread of the contagious disease.
