PHNOM PENH, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has administered at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccines to 13.12 million people, or 82 percent of its 16-million population, health ministry's secretary of state and spokeswoman Or Vandine said on Monday.
Of them, 10.88 million, or 68 percent, have been fully vaccinated with both required shots, and 869,680, or 5.4 percent, have received a booster dose, she said in a report.
"As of Sept. 26, some 98.8 percent of 10 million targeted adults, 89 percent of nearly 2 million targeted adolescents aged from 12 to under 18, and 78.6 percent of almost 1.9 million targeted children aged from 6 to under 12 have taken at least one vaccine dose," Vandine said.
The Southeast Asian nation launched a COVID-19 vaccination drive in February, with China being the key vaccine supplier.
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the country has made steady progress in its vaccination drive, expressing his hope that the kingdom will achieve herd immunity by November.
"With good vaccination progress in combination with strong containment and treatment measures, Cambodia looks ahead to a gradual reopening of sustainable and inclusive social and economic activities," he said in a speech delivered to the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly via videoconference late on Saturday.
He extended his sincere thanks to all bilateral and multilateral friends for their generous support extended to Cambodia in its fight against COVID-19.
Cambodia reported 839 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, pushing the national total caseload to 109,926, the health ministry said, adding that 18 new fatalities were confirmed, bringing the death toll to 2,261.
Additional 530 patients recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 101,185, the ministry said.
