The Atlanta Braves replaced injured starting pitcher Charlie Morton by adding left-handed pitcher Tucker Davidson to their World Series roster Wednesday.
Major League Baseball approved the move after independently confirming that Morton sustained a fractured right fibula.
Morton was injured in the second inning of Tuesday night's Game 1 after taking a sharp grounder from Yuli Gurriel off his lower right leg. Morton appeared unfazed while retiring the bottom of the Houston lineup in order. However, in the third inning, Morton winced and buckled while recording a called third strike on the leadoff batter, Jose Altuve.
Davidson, 25, had a 3.60 ERA without a decision in four starts for the Braves during the regular season, but landed on the injured list in June with a strained forearm.
He went 2-2 with a 1.17 ERA in four starts at Triple-A Gwinnett in 2021. He has yet to appear in a postseason game in his career.
Game 2 is Wednesday night. The Braves' Max Fried will oppose Houston's Jose Urquidy.
