MANILA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The men's Volleyball Nations League (VNL) match between China and Germany scheduled here on Thursday has been canceled as Germany refused to play, according to world volleyball governing body FIVB.
"Germany refused to play against China even though the Chinese athletes were cleared by local authorities after testing positive for COVID-19," said a statement on the FIVB's official website.
"In accordance with the VNL 2022 Competition Regulations, Germany automatically forfeits the match, giving China a 3-0 win."
As confirmed on Monday by China Volleyball Association (CVA), multiple Chinese players tested positive for COVID-19. Their match against France on Wednesday was canceled as China could not field a team due to medical circumstances related to COVID-19, and France was given a 3-0 win based on regulations.
