Giant panda art exhibition opens in New Zealand

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- A solo art exhibition tour on giant pandas in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games opened here on Saturday in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand.

Among the artworks on display by Chinese artist Liu Zhong was a 202.2-meter-long and 1-meter-high painting which was created over a period of three years, featuring more than 5,000 giant pandas in winter sports through the expressive techniques of Chinese ink painting.

The artist also created works for the two New Zealand gold medallists in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Joshua Zong, the organizer of the exhibition and chairman of AI International Art Gallery, said the exhibition aims to promote mutual understanding between the peoples of New Zealand and China, strengthen their friendship, and enhance bilateral art exchanges.

The exhibition is expected to further promote China's arts on pandas, which serves as a bridge between China and New Zealand, and between China and the rest of the world, said Zong.

The exhibition will be on stage in Auckland for one week starting from Saturday before traveling to the New Zealand cities of Christchurch and Queenstown later in August.
