MACAO, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The 10th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo opened Friday in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) to deepen "tourism plus" integration, drawing together members of the tourism and related sectors from worldwide.
Running under a hybrid of online and offline format, the expo presented seven major highlights to support the tapping of business opportunities online, showcase colorful cultures, present Macao as a platform linking China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and brand the city as a wedding destination.
The Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin, Zhuhai city, which is adjacent to Macao, joins as a new exhibitor to expand tourism cooperation between Hengqin and Macao.
Lei Wai Nong, secretary for economy and finance of the Macao SAR government, said at the opening ceremony that he hopes the expo can continue to radiate the unique strengths and role of Macao as a platform and create more opportunities for exchange and cooperation among members of the regional and international travel industry.
The expo is scheduled to host about 50 tourism presentation sessions, forums and activities, including those held by mainland provinces and municipalities as well as a high-level forum on tourism development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, according to the Macao Government Tourism Office, organizer of the event.
The exhibition floor covers about 23,000 square meters and accommodates 830 booths. The expo was first held in 2013.
