Chinese premier sends congratulations to Qatari counterpart

BEIJING, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang has congratulated Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on his taking office as Qatari prime minister and foreign minister.

In his message sent on Friday, Li said under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, China-Qatar relations in recent years have made great progress.

In December last year, Xi and the emir had a successful meeting on the sidelines of the first China-Arab States Summit, and reached new and important consensus on the development of China-Qatar relations in the next stage, Li said.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of China-Qatar relations, and stands ready to work with the Qatari side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and push for new progress in the China-Qatar strategic partnership, the Chinese premier said.
