Chinese swimmer Qin Haiyang broke the men's 50m breaststroke Asian record with 26.63s at the Chinese national spring swimming championships.
QINGDAO, China, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese swimmer Qin Haiyang broke the men's 50m breaststroke Asian record with 26.63 seconds in the event's preliminary and won the final later at the Chinese national spring swimming championships here Friday.
"I was qualified enough to set a new record according to recent training results. And I will accept more systematic training in the next few months and hope to improve my performance," Qin said after the race.
Olympic champion Zhang Yufei grabbed her third gold medal in the swimming championships on Friday. She finished the women's 50m butterfly in 25.32, equalizing the national record set by herself.
"Now I am more confident after recent matches. And I am more aware of my capability. I can swim faster in the next races," Zhang said.
In the other events on Friday, Pan Zhanle grabbed the men's 400m freestyle gold. Wang Gukailai won the men's 200m backstroke. Chen Juner topped the men's 200m butterfly. Lin Bingjie triumphed in the women's 800m freestyle in 8:23:42.
